ACNLP Standards

Association for Coaching and Neurolinguistic Programming

Introduction

The ACNLP (Association for Coaching and Neurolinguistic Programming) establishes professional standards for live online education in the fields of coaching and neurolinguistic programming (NLP).

These standards exist to:

  • preserve the integrity of the profession
  • maintain a clear distinction between education and marketing
  • protect learners, educators, and the professional environment
  • elevate the quality and credibility of live online education globally

ACNLP does not deliver education and does not issue certifications to individuals.
Its role is to define a professional framework within which educational programs may be designed, evaluated, and aligned.

For clarity, the term “learner” is used throughout this document to refer to individuals participating in live online education programs.

All educational programs referencing ACNLP standards must adhere to the following principles:

  • Clear Structure — Education has a defined beginning, progression, and conclusion.
  • Practical Application — Knowledge is actively applied through structured exercises and real-world scenarios.
  • Ethics and Accountability — Respect for learners, professional boundaries, and ethical responsibility are maintained.
  • Transparency — Learning outcomes, expectations, and scope are clearly defined.
  • Live Presence — Education takes place live, in real time, with direct human interaction.

These principles form the foundation of professional educational integrity.

Education aligned with ACNLP standards must:

  • be delivered live online via a real-time platform
  • include direct interaction between educators and learners
  • provide opportunities for questions, exercises, and immediate feedback
  • follow a clearly defined schedule of live educational hours

Pre-recorded materials may be used only as supplementary resources.
They may not replace live education hours.

ACNLP defines minimum professional thresholds.
These thresholds are not intended as maximum limits.

NLP Practitioner

  • Minimum 80 hours of live online education
  • Includes theory, practice, and integration

NLP Master

  • Minimum 90 hours of live online education
  • Advanced application, modeling, and identity-level integration

NLP Trainer

  • Minimum 100 hours of live online education
  • Educational methodology, ethics, and training structure

Coaching Education

  • Minimum 60 hours of live online education
  • lus at least 100 additional hours of practical application, direct client work, supervision, and self-study

Professional education is understood to extend beyond classroom hours and to require real-world application.

Educational programs must include structured opportunities for:

  • guided live exercises
  • pair or small-group practice sessions
  • real-world or simulated applications
  • reflection and structured feedback

Knowledge that is not applied is not considered integrated.

Programs aligned with ACNLP standards should provide access to:

  • individual or group supervision
  • feedback from experienced educators
  • space for professional questions and development

The purpose of supervision is competence and accountability, not control.

Educators delivering programs aligned with ACNLP standards must:

  • possess relevant practical experience
  • communicate professional boundaries clearly
  • uphold ethical principles of the profession
  • facilitate the educational process rather than dominate it

Authority is grounded in competence and experience, not in titles.

Programs aligned with ACNLP standards must clearly state:

  • that coaching and NLP are not substitutes for medical or psychotherapeutic treatment
  • the scope and limits of responsibility for both educators and learners
  • a strict prohibition of manipulative, misleading, or exaggerated claims

The profession is built on trust, not promises.

Before education begins, programs must clearly define:

  • duration and schedule
  • format and methodology
  • learner responsibilities
  • scope and limitations of the education
  • expected competence upon completion

Ambiguity is considered a violation of professional standards.

  • ACNLP does not approve or accredit individuals or institutions
  • ACNLP does not sell educational programs
  • ACNLP standards are public and accessible
  • Training providers remain responsible for their own implementation

ACNLP serves as a professional benchmark, not as a regulatory authority.

ACNLP standards exist to ensure:

  • clarity within the profession
  • credibility of educational programs
  • security and transparency for learners
  • a stable professional framework for educators

Standards are not a limitation.
They are the foundation of sustainable professional growth.
